Wildlife Encounters
With Spring in the air, wildlife are more abundant. It is important to keep that in mind, especially when letting your dogs out at night. Wildlife encounters can be very detrimental to your pet and very expensive for your wallet. Here are some tips to help avoid wildlife/pet encounters.
Before letting your dog into your fenced yard, make some loud noises to help scare any critters out that may be hanging around.
Don’t leave any dog food or treats outside.
If you normally allow your dog off leash in your unfenced yard, consider other arrangements for the next couple of weeks while wildlife are at their peak.
Don’t allow your dogs to chase wildlife!
If your dog does have a wildlife encounter, check them for any open wounds, and contact your vet for anything serious. Porcupine quills all need to be removed as they can migrate deeper into the skin over time and cause serious issues. Make sure you get them all! If you have an injured or sick wild animal, contact the game warden service and let them know if you dog came in contact with it.
Let’s do our part to keep all critters safe!
